Abstract At the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 171 germplasm accessions of Napier grass were studied using 20 SSR markers with the objective of assessing the allelic richness and genetic diversity of the collections held at ILRI and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA), and to determine distinct accessions to be introduced to enhance the diversity in each of the genebank collections.

Resumen En el International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Addis Ababa, Etiopía se caracterizaron 171 accesiones de germoplasma del pasto Napier (Cenchrus purpureus sin. Pennisetum purpureum) utilizando 20 marcadores SSR, con el objeto de evaluar la riqueza alélica y la diversidad genética de las colecciones existentes en ILRI y la Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (EMBRAPA), e identificar accesiones con potencial para incrementar la diversidad genética en cada una de las colecciones.
