Building on its thematic programme on action against transnational organized crime and illicit trafficking, including drug trafficking, UNODC published a comprehensive strategy to combat trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants for the period 2011-2013 to address the interrelated areas of awareness-raising, capacity-building and implementing the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, and the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.
