The CBI sent the cowpea seeds for irradiation to the Plant Breeding and Genetics Laboratory of the Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture in Seibersdorf, Austria, and then the seeds were returned to the Institute for selection of varieties with favourable traits from among the many mutants developed.

El CBI envió las semillas de caupí para su irradiación al Laboratorio de Fitomejoramiento y Fitogenética de la División Mixta FAO/OIEA de Técnicas Nucleares en la Alimentación y la Agricultura en Seibersdorf (Austria), tras lo cual las semillas se devolvieron al Instituto para que este seleccionara las variedades con rasgos favorables de entre los muchos mutantes obtenidos.
