والصلات بين استغلال الموارد واستمرار الحرب قائمة على ثلاثة مستويات: على مستوى المكاسب الشخصية لمسؤولين عسكريين ومدنيين رفيعي المستوى، يستفيدون سواء من مكاسب مالية مباشرة أو من الحصول على عقود هامة لشركاتهم؛ وفي الميدان، لأنه يوجد قتال بين الجيوش النظامية التابعة لدول غير مدعوة والماي ماي وقوى هدامة أخرى في مناطق التعدين أكبر من القتال الدائر على الجبهة الرسمية، حيث عليهم أن يتعاملوا مع القوات المسلحة الكونغولية وحلفائها؛ وعلى مستوى تمويل الصراع، بسبب الفجوة القائمة بين النفقات العسكرية لمختلف الجيوش ومستوى ميزانية الدفاع لمختلف البلدان.

The links between the exploitation of resources and the continuation of the war are found at three levels: at the level of personal gains of high-ranking military and civilian officials, who benefit either from direct financial gains or from getting important contracts for their companies; in the field, because there is more fighting between the regular armies of non-invited States and the Mai-Mai and other negative forces in the mining areas than at the official front, where they have to deal with the Congolese Armed Forces (FAC) and its allies; and at the level of financing the conflict, because of the gap between the military expenditures of the various armies and the level of the defence budget of the various countries.

El vínculo entre la explotación de los recursos y la continuación de la guerra se establece a tres niveles: a nivel de las ganancias personales que obtienen los altos dirigentes civiles y militares, que se benefician, ya sea directamente del aspecto financiero o bien mediante contratos importantes para sus empresas; a nivel del terreno, porque hay más enfrentamientos entre los ejércitos regulares de los países no invitados y los Mayi-Mayi y demás fuerzas negativas en las zonas mineras, que en el frente oficial en donde deben enfrentarse a las Fuerzas Armadas Congoleñas y sus aliados, y a nivel de la financiación del conflicto, por la diferencia entre los gastos militares de los diferentes ejércitos y el nivel del presupuesto de defensa de los distintos países.

Связь между эксплуатацией ресурсов и продолжением военных действий установлена на трех уровнях: на уровне личной выгоды высокопоставленных военных и гражданских чиновников, которые либо получают прямую финансовую выгоду, либо добиваются заключения важных контрактов с контролируемыми ими компаниями; на уровне действий на местах, поскольку регулярные войска неприглашенных государств ведут более активные боевые действия именно против комбатантов маи-маи и других «негативных сил» в горнодобывающих районах, а не на официальном фронте, где им противостоят Конголезские вооруженные силы (КВС) и их союзники; и на уровне финансирования конфликта, вследствие несоответствия между военными расходами, связанными с действиями различных армий, и размерами бюджетных средств, выделяемых на оборону в различных странах.
