Die Formel “letzte Liebesgeschichte” wird im Mann ohne Eigenschaften von Agathe selbst auf ihr Verhältnis zum Bruder, dem Helden des Romans, angewandt und bietet einen wichtigen Schlüssel zum Verständnis dieses Werkes, das unter anderem eine großangelegte Bestandsaufnahme und radikale Kritik des Liebesglaubens westlicher romantischer und nachromantischer Literaturtradition unternimmt.

In the Man without Qualities Agathe uses the formula “last lovestory” when she thinks of her relationship to her brother, the hero of the novel. It provides an important clue to the understanding of a work which, among other things, presents a large-scale inventory and a radical critique of the Western Romantic and Post-romantic tradition of “amour passion.”
