Under the Domestic Violence Protection Orders Act, victims of domestic violence can make application for a Protection Order through the Magistrates Court. A protection order may, inter alia, prohibit a spouse, partner, former spouse or former partner from assaulting or harassing the complainant, from going within a specified distance of the complainant and may even in some circumstances exclude the respondent from the residence where both parties ordinarily cohabit

Aux termes de la loi sur la violence domestique (ordonnances de protection), les victimes peuvent saisir le tribunal de première instance (Magistrates Court) d'une requête en ordonnance de protection, laquelle peut notamment consister à interdire à l'époux, au partenaire, à l'ex-époux ou ex-partenaire d'agresser ou de harceler la plaignante, de s'approcher à plus d'une certaine distance de celle-ci et, dans certains cas, ordonner l'expulsion de l'infracteur du domicile habituel des deux parties
