ونظرا لكون نحو 40 في المائة من سكان غواتيمالا ينتمون إلى الأقليات الإثنية والثقافية من المايا أو الغاريفونا أو الشينكا، ونظرا لوجود 24 لغة محكية في البلد، فقد أنشأت غواتيمالا المؤسسات ووضعت السياسات والتشريعات والبرامج التي ترمي إلى تلبية تطلعات شعبها.

With approximately 40 per cent of its population belonging to Mayan, Garifuna or Xinka ethnic and cultural minorities and 24 languages being spoken in the country, Guatemala has established institutions and developed policies, legislation and programmes aimed at meeting the aspirations of its people.
