The distribution of seats in the Spanish Parliament since the national elections on 20 November 2011 has provoked, mostly from the affected political parties, a huge amount of criticism about the Spanish voting system, particularly of the electoral formula created by the Belgian mathematician Víctor D ́Hont. The different parties normally make decisions based on the results from the electoral formula used by the Spanish Parliament in any given historical period. How is the D’Hont formula affecting the quality of Spanish democracy? Is the D’Hont formula the true obstacle?

La distribución parlamentaria que han arrojado los resultados de las pasadas elecciones generales del día 20 de noviembre, de 2011, ha ocasionado, sobre todo por parte de las formaciones políticas más severamente afectadas, toda una cascada de críticas a nuestro sistema electoral, y particularmente sobre la fórmula ideada por el matemático belga Víctor D’Hont. Los distintos partidos tienden a una valoración sesgada en virtud del beneficio obtenido de la fórmula elegida por el Legislador en una etapa histórica determinada. ¿Cómo afecta la ley D’Hont a la calidad de la democracia española?
