Based on regional studies on aerial magnetic and gravimetric data, it has been found that the sedimentary sequence thickness in the Atrato basin, reaches 10.5 km and the Mande magmatic arc is a tectonic pillar, bounded by faults, including the so-called Dabeiba, Sautatá and Darien Serrania arcs. The interpretation of some seismic lines of the program Bajo Atrato-79 and Golfo de Urabá-89, taken from Seismic Atlas of Colombia, shows the Urabá Basin base is affected by normal faults limiting sunked and raised blocks, a sedimentary sequence that is wedged against Mande magmatic arc and becomes thicker towards east, as well as the presence of thrust faults in the eastern sector.

A partir de estudios regionales con base en información magnética y gravimétrica aérea, se ha definido que el espesor de la secuencia sedimentaria en la cuenca del Atrato, alcanza los 10.5 km y que el arco magmático de Mandé es un pilar tectónico, limitado por fallas, que incluye los denominados arcos de Dabeiba, Sautatá y la Serranía del Darién.
