The Shariah also allows for the withdrawal of guardianship from one or both parents or the legal guardian, if the person concerned has been convicted of rape or indecent assault, has been sentenced to a long term of imprisonment, has ill-treated the child or has endangered his or her health, safety or moral integrity.
