With regards to two "Kampo" medicines adulterated with the anorectic N-nitroso-fenfluramine, the hepatotoxicity is attributed to the herbal ingredients without any valid reason; although, on the basis of studies and a statement from the Japanese Ministry of Health, the chemical admixture is responsible for this.
