THE COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES, Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Community, Having regard to Council Regulation (EC) No 2494195 of 23 October 1995 concerning harmonized indices of consumer prices (l), and in particular Article 4 and Article 5(3) thereof, Having regard to the opinion of the European Central Bank (2), Whereas: (1) By virtue of Article 5(l)(b) of Regulation (EC) No 2494195, each Member State is required to produce a Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) starting with the index for January 1997.

LA COMMISSION DES COMMUNAUTÉS EUROPÉENNES, vu le traité instituant la Communauté européenne, vu le règlement (CE) n° 2494/95 du Conseil, du 23 octobre 1995, relatif aux indices des prix à la consommation harmonisés (1), et en particulier son article 4 et son article 5, paragraphe 3, vu l'opinion de la Banque centrale européenne (2), considérant ce qui suit: (1) En vertu de l'article 5, paragraphe 1, point b) du règlement (CE) n° 2494/95, chaque État membre est tenu de produire un indice des prix à la consommation harmonisé (IPCH), à compter de l'indice de janvier 1997.
