The invaders who set fire to the main cities of the Minoan civilization (about 1400 B. C.) are identified with the Homeric Achaean that destroyed Ugarit and Troy in the thirteenth century B. C. The Achaean that arrived in Crete gave the name of their heavenly god (Zeus) to a Minoan godhead (Zagreus).
