These were the tensions that led to war, from which Paraguay emerged not only depopulated, but with almost half its territory amputated - it had to give up 400,000 square kilometers to Brazil and Argentina – and was subjected for years to military occupation and the payment of reparations that disrupted many of its social and economic structures: schools, industry, railroads.
