I have to say that the poisonous thread that has run through the diplomatic manoeuvrings in the run-up to the Iraq war has been anti-Americanism. It is this same vitriolic anti-Americanism which inspires so many in this House and elsewhere to try to build separate EU structures to replace those in which our American friends have a key role.

Todettakoon, että Irakin sotaa edeltävien diplomaattisten vehkeilyjen taustalla oli juuri se sama katkera amerikkalaisvastaisuus, joka innoittaa niin monien parlamentin jäsenten ja muiden tahojen pyrkimyksiä luoda erilliset EU-rakenteet niiden rakenteiden tilalle, joissa yhdysvaltalaisilla ystävillämme on avainrooli.

Non posso esimermi dall'affermare che il fiele che ha avvelenato le iniziative diplomatiche nel periodo di preparazione della guerra in Iraq è stato l'antiamericanismo, lo stesso antiamericanismo al vetriolo che ispira i tanti, all'interno ed all'esterno di quest'Aula, che mirano a creare strutture separate dell'Unione europea che sostituiscano quelle in cui i nostri amici americani svolgono un ruolo fondamentale.
