The present invention provides ultrafine particles of titanium dioxide which have a small average primary particle size (DBET) and a high water adsorption capacity by adding sulphuric acid in a production step of hydrolyzing titanium tetrachloride when the reaction conversion rate of the titanium tetrachloride is 80% or more and less than 100%.
