(2010) conducted a study whose aim was to adapt and calibrate the hydroclimatic aridity model proposed by De Martonne to the study of water balance in arid and semi-arid zones in the La Paz and Comundú watersheds, located in the state of Baja California Sur, where a mean monthly aridity index was determined for both areas. Salinas et al. (1998) studied the aridity conditions in this region in northwest Mexico, formed by the states bordering the Gulf of California, defining an Annual Arid Cover Index (AACI) which is used to describe variations in the extent and location of areas of extreme aridity between the years 1950 and 1990, and through a spatial analysis of the arid zones it was found that in the area comprising the Altar Desert and the southern portion of the Baja California Peninsula, the arid conditions are more persistent than in the rest of the region studied.

(2010) realizaron un trabajo cuyo objetivo fue adaptar y calibrar el modelo de aridez hidroclimática propuesto por De Martonne mediante una modificación del mismo, para adecuarlo al estudio del balance hídrico en zonas áridas y semiáridas en las cuencas de La Paz y Comundú, ubicadas en el estado de Baja California Sur, en donde se Golfo de California, definiendo un Índice de Cobertura Árida Anual (ICAA), el cual es utilizado para describir las variaciones de la extensión y localización de las zonas de aridez extrema entre los años 1950 y 1990, y mediante un análisis espacial de las zonas áridas se encontró que en la zona que comprende el Desierto de Altar y la porción meridional de la Península de Baja California, las condiciones de aridez son más persistentes que en el resto de la región estudiada.
