Beginning in the early 1960s, the Soviet Union’s (and at that time the world’s) leading climatologist, Mikhail Budyko, was the first to issue a number of warnings on the inevitably of accelerated global climate change in the case of industrial systems based on the burning of fossil fuels.5 Although anthropogenic climate change had long been recognized, what was new was the discovery of major climate feedbacks such as the melting of Arctic ice and the disruption of the albedo effect as reflective white ice was replaced with blue seawater, increasing the amount of solar radiation absorbed by the planet and ratcheting up global average temperature.

Comenzando a principios de la década de 1960, Mijail Budyco, el principal climatólogo de la Unión Soviética (y en esa época, del mundo), fue el primero en lanzar una serie de advertencias sobre el carácter inevitable del cambio climático global acelerado en el caso de sistemas basados en la combustión de combustibles fósiles[5].
