وكما تعلمون على الأرجح، سيدي الرئيس، فقد أقر الكونغرس الوطني للبرازيل انضمام البلد إلى المعاهدة على أساس أن تدابير فعالة ستتخذ بغية وقف سباق التسلح النووي في موعد مبكر وإزالة الأسلحة النووية بشكل تام، على النحو المبين في المرسوم التشريعي رقم 65، الذي أقر المعاهدة في عام 1998.

Mr. President, as you may be aware, the National Congress of Brazil approved the country’s accession to the Treaty on the understanding that effective measures would be taken with a view to the cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and the total elimination of nuclear weapons, as stated in Legislative Decree No. 65, which approved the Treaty in 1998.

Señor Presidente, como usted bien sabe, el Congreso Nacional del Brasil aprobó la adhesión del país al Tratado en el entendimiento de que se tomarían medidas efectivas con miras a la cesación de la carrera de armamentos nucleares en una fecha temprana y la eliminación total de las armas nucleares, como se establece en el Decreto Legislativo núm. 65, por el que se aprobó el Tratado en 1998.
