Aufgabe der Kommission ist es, die Teilkirchen Lateinamerikas mit Rat und Tat zu unterstützen, auch, indem sie aufmerksam die Fragen studiert, die das Leben und die Entwicklung dieser Kirchen betreffen, um vor allem den Dikasterien der Kurie, deren Zuständigkeitsbereich berührt ist, aber auch den Kirchen selbst bei der Lösung dieser Fragen helfen zu können.

The function of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America is to be available to the particular Churches in Latin America, by counsel and by action, taking a keen interest in the questions that affect the life and progress of those Churches; and especially to help the Churches themselves in the solution of those questions, or to be helpful to those dicasteries of the Curia that are involved by reason of their competence.

Es función de la Comisión aconsejar y ayudar a las Iglesias particulares en América Latina: además, estudiar las cuestiones que se refieren a la vida y progreso de dichas Iglesias, especialmente estando a disposición, tanto de los dicasterios de la Curia interesados por razón de su competencia, como de las mismas Iglesias para resolver dichas cuestiones.

Compito della Commissione è di assistere col consiglio e con i mezzi economici le Chiese particolari dell'America Latina, e di attendere, altresì, allo studio delle questioni che riguardano la vita e lo sviluppo delle medesime Chiese, specialmente per essere di aiuto tanto ai dicasteri di Curia, interessati in ragione della loro competenza, quanto alle Chiese stesse nella soluzione di tali questioni.

É dever da Comissão assistir, com o conselho e os meios económicos, as Igrejas particulares da América Latina, e dedicar-se, além disso, ao estudo das questões que se referem à vida e desenvolvimento dessas Igrejas, especialmente para dar ajuda tanto aos Dícastérios da Cúria interessados em razão da sua competência, quanto às Igrejas mesmas na solução de tais questões.
