During the reporting year, two rotations of approximately 2,100 soldiers, totalling 4,200 or 21 percent of the army’s total strength throughout the reporting year, played a vital role on the international scene by leading the NATO Joint Task Force into southern Afghanistan, in a UN-mandated mission conducted at the request of the Afghan government.

Au cours de l’année faisant l’objet du présent rapport, deux rotations de quelque 2 100 membres des FC, pour un total de 4 200 militaires – soit 21 p. 100 de l’effectif total de l’Armée de terre – ont joué un rôle crucial sur l’échiquier international en dirigeant la Force opérationnelle de l’OTAN dans le sud de l’Afghanistan, dans le cadre d’une mission dictée par l’ONU, à la demande du gouvernement afghan.
