Egy szép reggelen azonban megtudtam, hogy minden telegráf mozgatója tulajdonképpen egy évi ezerkétszáz frank fizetéssel rendelkező szegény ördög, egy hivatalnok, aki nem a kék eget nézi naphosszat, mint a csillagász, nem is a vizet, mint a halász, nem is a tájat, mint a bámészkodó, hanem a fehér hasú, fekte lábú óriási rovart figyeli, a továbbító állomást, amely négy-öt mérföldnyire van tőle.
