Haüy war der Sohn des Webers Just Haüy und seiner Ehefrau Madeleine Candelot. Er hatte einen jüngeren Bruder, Valentin Haüy. Seine schulische Ausbildung erhielt er zunächst am Collège de Navarre und später am Collège du Cardinal Lemoine.[2] Darauf war er römisch-katholischer Pfarrer.

Biography[edit] Haüy was born at Saint-Just-en-Chaussée, in the département of Oise. His parents were of a humble rank of life, and were only enabled by the kindness of friends to send their son to the College of Navarre and later to the College of Lemoine.
