The stabilisation of the situation was fostered by the results of the March 1945 parliamentary elections. Paasikivi was able to form government based on cooperation between the three large parties: the Social Democrats (SDP), the communist-dominated Finnish People’s Democratic League (SKDL) and the Agrarian Party (Maalaisliitto).
