তাপগতিবিদ্যার শূন্যতম সূত্র (ইংরেজি: Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics) থেকে জানা যায়,যদি A ও B দুটি বস্তু হয় এবং এদের মধ্যস্থতাকারী একটি বস্তু C হয়, তাহলে A ও B সমতাপীয় অবস্থায় থাকলে A ও C এবং B ও C সমতাপীয় অবস্থায় থাকবে।

The theoretical basis for thermometers is the zeroth law of thermodynamics which postulates that if you have three bodies, A, B and C, if A and B are at the same temperature, and B and C are at the same temperature then A and C are at the same temperature.
