وارتأت المحكمة أن صاحبة البلاغ شاهدة لا يمكن تصديقها ومن ثم برأت المتهم، رغم خلو الدليل من أي شيء يستدعي عدم إقرار روايتها سوى إنكار المتهم فحسب، وأفكار التحيز الجنسي التي تبنتها المحكمة التي تصف الكيفية التي ينبغي أن تتصرف بها في الظروف قيد النظر الفتاة الفلبينية العادية، متغاضية عن كون صاحبة البلاغ قاصراً صماء.

It viewed the author as an incredible witness and therefore acquitted the accused, notwithstanding the fact that there was nothing in the evidence to disprove her story, except the accused’s bare denials and the court’s sexist notions of how an ordinary Filipina, regardless of her being a deaf minor, should behave in the circumstances.

除了被告的矢口否认以及法院关于普通菲律宾人在类似情况应做出如何表现的性别歧视观念——完全不顾来文人是一名失聪的未成年人,没有任何证据表明来文人的叙述不可信,但法院依然认为来文人作为证人是不可信的,因而判被告无罪。
