The sharper-than-expected contraction was primarily attributed to the collapse in global demand that has caused the Thai exports to fall severely and also discouraged household consumption and private investment. The impact of export-led-contraction was seen across sectors of the Thai economy. The private sector reduced investment activities quickly, especially in the manufacturing sector where there has been a sharp fall in export demand and large rise in excess capacity.
