Sie waren ja auch für die ihnen anvertraute Aufgabe gut vorbereitet: Sie trugen die für die Feier der heiligen Liturgie notwendigen Texte der Heiligen Schrift bei sich, die von ihnen zusammengestellt, in die altslawische Sprache übersetzt und in einem neuen Alphabet niedergeschrieben waren, das von Konstantin (Cyrill), dem Philosophen, erarbeitet und den Lauten jener Sprache vollkommen angepaßt war.

They had in fact prepared well for the task entrusted to them: they took with them the texts of the Sacred Scriptures needed for celebrating the Sacred Liturgy, which they had prepared and translated into the Old Slavonic language and written in a new alphabet, devised by Constantine the Philosopher and perfectly adapted to the sounds of that language.
