The correspondence between Manuela Ramos and Fray Francisco Fernández de Villegas was exchanged approximately from 1704 to 1706 and it was used as incriminating evidence to prove their relationship was not just spiritual. Some of the reasons to believe so were the following ones: there were crosses and zeros representing kisses and hugs in many of the letters; the cautious way they were writing, withholding their names and; lastly, some of the treatment formulas they employed (for instance: my soul ́s husband).

La correspondencia entre Manuela Ramos y fray Francisco Fernández de Villegas se intercambió aproximadamente entre 1704 y 1706 y se utilizó como prueba incriminatoria para demostrar que la relación entre ambos no era solo de amor espiritual, por varias razones: en primer lugar, por las cruces y ceros que acompañaban a muchas de esas cartas y que representaban besos y abrazos, por la forma cautelosa en que se escribían, ocultando muchas veces sus verdaderos nombres, y por último, por algunas de las fórmulas utilizadas (por ejemplo, "esposo de mi alma").
