Damit wir aber wirklich, soweit es Sterblichen gestattet ist, „begreifen können mit allen Heiligen, was es ist um die Breite und Länge, die Höhe und Tiefe“ [33] der geheimnisvollen Liebe des fleischgewordenen Wortes zum himmlischen Vater und zu den mit dem Makel der Sünden befleckten Menschen, muß man beachten, daß seine Liebe nicht nur eine geistige war, wie sie Gott zukommt, insofern „Gott Geist ist“ [34] .

Ma, affinché possiamo veramente, per quanto è consentito a uomini mortali, « comprendere con tutti i santi, quali siano la larghezza e la lunghezza e l’altezza e la profondità(33) dell’arcana carità del Verbo Incarnato verso il suo celeste Padre e verso gli uomini macchiati di tante colpe; occorre tener ben presente che il suo amore non fu unicamente spirituale, come si addice a Dio, poiché « Iddio è spirito »(34).
