গাইবান্ধায় এসে এটি দুটি শাখায় বিভক্ত হয়ে যায়- একটি শাখা পশ্চিমে ঘাঘট নামে প্রবাহিত হয়ে শেরপুরে করতোয়া নদীতে গিয়ে পড়ে. অপর শাখা বাঙালি নামে দক্ষিণ দিকে এগিয়ে গিয়ে বগুড়ায় আবারো দুটি শাখায় বিভক্ত হয়।
