ল্যাটিন আমেরিকা বলতে বোঝানো হয় সাধারনত যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের অন্যান্য অঞ্চলকে (প্র্রধানত যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের দক্ষিণের অঞ্চল), যেখানে ল্যাটিন, স্প্যানিস এবং পর্তূগীজ ভাষা হতে উদ্ভূত রোমান ভাষা প্রধান ভাষা হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত। এসব অঞ্চল গুলো হলো: মধ্য আমেরিকার কিছু দেশ (সবসময় ইংরেজী যাদের প্রধান ভাষা নয়), ক্যারিবিয়ানের কিছু দেশ (ডাচ, ইংরেজী এবং ফেঞ্চ ভাষাভাষী অঞ্চল সমূহ বাদে), মেক্সিকো, দক্ষিণ আমেরিকার বেশির ভাগ অঞ্চল (গায়ানা, সুরিনাম এবং ফ্রেঞ্চ গুইয়ানা (ফ্রান্স) এবং ফকল্যান্ড দ্বীপপূঞ্জ(ব্রিটিশ)।

Latin America refers to the other areas of the Americas (generally south of the United States) where the Romance languages, derived from Latin, of Spanish and Portuguese (but French speaking countries are not usually included) predominate: the other republics of Central America (but not always Belize), part of the Caribbean (not the Dutch-, English-, or French-speaking areas), Mexico, and most of South America (except Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana (France), and the Falkland Islands (UK)).
