Ein neueres Patent beansprucht die Synthese von 4-Phenylbuttersäure über eine Friedel-Crafts-Acylierung von Benzol und γ-Butyrolacton mit Aluminiumchlorid bei 60 °C und Aufarbeitung mit verdünnter Natronlauge und anschließendem Ansäuern in 94%iger Rohausbeute und 81 % Reinstausbeute.

A recent patent claims the synthesis of 4-phenylbutanoic acid via a Friedel-Crafts acylation of benzene and γ-butyrolactone with aluminum chloride at 60 °C followed by a work up with dilute sodium hydroxide solution and subsequent acidification in 94% crude yield and 81% pure yield.
