En un estudio del 2012 se buscó determinar la presencia del virus de inmunodeficiencia humana tipo 2 (VIH-2) en la población mexicana mediante pruebas rápidas y se demostró que estas no son una herramienta útil para poder determinar la existencia de anticuerpos contra VIH-2 en suero, ya que tienen un valor predictivo negativo bajo (51.7 %).
