It is recognized that in the different religions are rays of truth which illuminate all men (NA 2) and seeds of the word (AG 11); because of Gods disposing, there are in these religions elements of truth and goodness (OT 16); one finds elements of truth, of grace and goodness not only in the hearts of men but also in the rites and customs of peoples, although all must be "healed, elevated and completed" (AG 9; LG 17).

A zsinat elismeri, hogy a vallásokban megvan a minden embert megvilágosító igazság egy-egy sugara (NA 2), és az Ige magvai (AG 11); Isten rendeléséből ezekben a vallásokban igaz és jó elemek is vannak (OT 16); nemcsak az emberek szívében találhatjuk meg az igazság, kegyelem és jóság elemeit, hanem a népek szertartásaiban és kultúráiban is, bár mindez „meggyógyul, fölemelkedik és beteljesedik” Isten dicsőségére (AG 9, LG 17).
