ومن بين المبادرات الهامة الأخرى ”خطة حماية جودة المياه المحيطة بالحاجز“ (خطة الحاجز) و ”برنامج إنقاذ الحاجز“، وهو برنامج مدته خمس سنوات (2008-2013) يهدف إلى خفض تصريف المغذيات والمواد الكيميائية المذابة من الأراضي الزراعية إلى بحيرة الحاجز المرجاني العظيم بنسبة 25 في المائة، وخفض تصريف الرواسب والمغذيات بنسبة 10 في المائة.

Other important initiatives include the Reef Water Quality Protection Plan (Reef Plan) and Reef Rescue, a five-year programme (2008-2013) that aims to reduce the discharge of dissolved nutrients and chemicals from agricultural lands into the Great Barrier Reef lagoon by 25 per cent and the discharge of sediment and nutrients by 10 per cent.
