Initiatives to strengthen indigenous women's rights to combat violence include a project in the region of Sucumbíos in Ecuador, where UNIFEM and the United Nations Population Fund supported the Asociación de Mujeres de la Nacionalidad Kichwa in a project to sensitize and develop capacities on gender-based violence as one of the problems limiting women's participation and exercise of their rights at the community level

Entre las iniciativas para impulsar los derechos de las mujeres indígenas con vistas a combatir la violencia contra la mujer figura un proyecto en la región de Sucumbíos del Ecuador, donde el UNIFEM y el Fondo de Población de las Naciones Unidas apoyaron a la Asociación de Mujeres de la Nacionalidad Kichwa en un proyecto para la sensibilización y creación de capacidad en materia de violencia por motivos de género, como problema que limita la participación de las mujeres y el ejercicio de sus derechos a nivel comunitario
