آخرین بار سبد بزرگی با خود برده بودند و همه خرید کریسمسشان عبارت بود از: گوشت خوک سرخ شده، یک کلم و مقدای نان چاودار و یک دستکش برای آنا، یک عروسک لاستیکی جیغ جیغو و یک قوطی مخروطی کوچک و سبز رنگ پر از شیرینی. آنها این قوطی را در آشپزخانه آویزان کردند تا شش جفت چشم مشتاقانه به آن خیره گردد.
