Si apriva così rapidamente – e infatti si aperse rovinosamente per loro – la via che porta a porre in dubbio e a rifiutare tutte le verità che sono poste oltre la natura delle cose e la capacità intellettiva dell’uomo; giunsero a tal punto d’impudenza da negare che vi sia qualche autorità che promani da Dio, e che Dio stesso esista, scadendo infine, nella teoria insulsa dell’Idealismo e in quella particolarmente abietta del Materialismo.
