Ved »biologisk materiale« forstaas i dette direktiv ethvert materiale, der indeholder genetisk information, og som kan reproducere sig selv, eller som kan reproduceres i et biologisk system.

Ως «βιολογικό υλικό» νοείται, κατά την έννοια της παρούσας οδηγίας, κάθε υλικό το οποίο περιέχει γενετικές πληροφορίες και το οποίο είναι ικανό προς αυτοαναπαραγωγή ή προς αναπαραγωγή μέσα σε ένα βιολογικό σύστημα.

'Biological material' within the meaning of this Directive means any material containing genetic information and capable of self-reproducing or capable of being reproduced in a biological system.
