While welcoming the decision of the Council of Ministers regarding civil, social and humanitarian benefits to the Kuwaiti biduns and taking note of the decision by the Parliament to accord Kuwaiti nationality to 4,000 such persons each year, the Committee remains concerned at the situation of at least 100,000 biduns termed “illegal residents” in the State party, who lack legal recognition and are reported to continue to be the victims of various types of discrimination and ill-treatment (arts. 2 and 16).

Si bien celebra la Resolución del Consejo de Ministros relativa a las prestaciones civiles, sociales y humanitarias a los bidún kuwaitíes y toma nota de la decisión del Parlamento de otorgar la nacionalidad kuwaití a 4.000 de ellos cada año, el Comité sigue preocupado por la situación de como mínimo 100.000 bidún, considerados “residentes ilegales” en el Estado parte, que carecen de reconocimiento legal y que al parecer siguen siendo víctimas de diversos tipos de discriminación y malos tratos (arts. 2 y 16).
