Vornehmliche Wege der Forschung zur Untermauerung dieser These sind : 1. die Ausprobung von Extrakten der Geschwülste auf hormonale Wirkstoffe; Spuren von 5-Hydroxytryptamin (Serotonin, Enteramin) wurden in zwei einschlägigen Geschwülsten bereits nachgewiesen, doch kommen wohl auch noch andere Äthylamine und Äthylaminderivate, wie Phenyläthylamin, Tyramin, Oxytyramin und Octopamin in Frage; 2. die ärztliche Fahndung nach einem besonderen, hormonal deutbaren Krankheitsbild bei den Trägern der Geschwülste.
