English[en]
The kakapo was originally described by English ornithologist George Robert Gray in 1845 and named Strigops habroptilus.[note 1] Its generic name Strigops is derived from the Ancient Greek strix, genitive strigos "owl", and ops "face", while its specific epithet habroptilus comes from habros "soft", and ptilon "feather".[7] The bird has so many unusual features that it was initially placed in its own tribe, Strigopini.
Hungarian[hu]
Binominális neve az ógörög strix, genitive strigos "bagoly", illetve az ops "arc" tagokból tevődik össze, míg a faj megnevezése a habros "könnyű", illetve a ptilon "toll" szavak összetétele.[7] E madárfaj számos szokatlan tulajdonsággal rendelkezik, amely miatt a Strigopini törzsbe sorolták.
