Darum ist die Wunde des heiligsten Herzens Jesu, auch nach seinem Tode, durch die Jahrhunderte ein lebendiges Bild jener freien Tat der Liebe, mit der Gott seinen Eingeborenen Sohn hingab zur Erlösung der Menschen, und mit der Christus uns alle so sehr geliebt hat, daß er sich für uns auf Kalvaria zum blutigen Opfer hingab: „Christus hat uns geliebt und sich für uns Gott als Opfergabe hingegeben zum lieblichen Wohlgeruch.“
