En britisk ngo, »People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals« (PETA), indledte i april 2004 en kampagne mod DaimlerChrysler, som ikke vil levere visse af deres biler med lædersæder, fordi nogle dyrevelfærdsaktivister af religiøse eller etiske grunde ikke accepterer brugen af læder, selv når der er tale om et biprodukt fra kødindustrien.

A British NGO ‘People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ (PETA) in April 2004 started a campaign against DaimlerChrysler who refuse to offer some of their cars with a non-leather seat option, as some animal welfare activists do not accept for religious or ethical reasons the use of leather even when a by-product of the meat industry.
