Dieses sogenannteOphiobolus-decline, ein Phänomen, das auch bei anderen Wurzelkrankheiten beobachtet werden kann, ist zumindest in alten Ackerbaugebieten nicht nur auf eine spezifisch umgestimmte, saprophytische Bodenmikroflora zurückzuführen, sondern auch auf die Anreicherung einer ganzen Reihe verschiedener Fußkrankheitserreger des Weizens, die sich schließlich gegenseitig derart beeinflussen, daß praktisch keine Erkrankung mehr zustande kommt.

This so-calledOphiobolus-decline, a phenomenon known also from other diseases, must be based not only on a specific conversion of the saprophytic soil-microflora, but also on the accumulation of a lot of different parasites in such fields. The interactions of such parasites end finally in an unexpected result, because in mixed infections they are not able any more to infect heavily, in association, the host plant.

CetOphiobolus „decline”, phénomène constaté d'ailleurs dans d'autres maladies de racines, ne se ramène pas exclusivement au rôle d'une microflore saprophytique modifiée (dans les régions de vieilles cultures), mais peut être dû à l'accumulation d'une grande série de parasites des racines du blé: l'influence que ceux-ci exercent réciproquement empèchent pratiquement les maladies des pieds.
