এক্সপেরিমেন্টাল মেনিপুলেশনস: নিউরোইমেজিং স্টাডির দ্বারা কোন মানষিক অবস্থা বা প্রক্রিয়ার সাথে নিউরাল এক্টিভিটি বা স্নায়বিক কার্যের (যেমন মস্তিষ্কের ক্রিয়া) মধ্যে সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করা গেলেও উক্ত স্নায়বিক কার্যই যে সম্পর্কযুক্ত মানষিক প্রক্রিয়ার কারণ সে বিষয়ে নিশ্চিত করে বলা যায় না। কারণ সম্পর্ক স্থাপনই কারণ হওয়া নির্দেশ করে না।

Experimental manipulations: Neuroimaging correlational studies cannot determine whether neural activity plays a causal role in the occurrence of mental processes (correlation does not imply causation) and they cannot determine if the neural activity is either necessary or sufficient for such processes to occur.
