Chesterfield Inlet is a narrow, fiordlike arm of the northwest coast of HUDSON BAY that stretches 160 km inland to the THELON R. It marks a physiographic divide along the bay, separating a narrow, rocky coastal plain backing onto a plain and hilly area to the north, from an enormous area of low relief, with poorly developed drainage farther south.

L'inlet Chesterfield est un bras étroit, semblable à un fjord, sur la côte Nord-Ouest de la BAIE D'HUDSON, qui s'étire sur 160 km à l'intérieur vers la RIVIÈRE THELON. Il marque une division physiographique le long de la baie; il sépare une étroite plaine côtière rocheuse adossée à un plateau vallonné au nord et, plus loin vers le sud, une vaste région de faible relief au drainage peu développé.
