The question of a reduction in the size of the European Commission after enlargement was resolved to a degree — the Treaty providing that once the number of Member States reached 27, the number of Commissioners appointed in the subsequent Commission would be reduced by the Council to below 27, but without actually specifying the target of that reduction.

La question de la reduccion de la talha de la Comission Europèa se resolvèt amb una escapatòria, perque lo Tractat establiguèt qu'un còp que lo nombre d'Estats membres capite 27, lo nombre de comissaris nomenats dins la seguenta Comission será redusit a 27 conselhers, sens arribar a especificar lo biais que se realizarà aquela reduccion.
