ويقدم مكتب وكيل الأمين العام للشؤون الاقتصادية والاجتماعية الدعم والمشورة إلى وكيل الأمين العام، وعند الاقتضاء إلى الأمين العام المساعد لتنسيق السياسات والشؤون المشتركة بين الوكالات وإلى الأمين العام المساعد للتنمية الاقتصادية بشأن تخطيط برنامج عمل الإدارة وتنسيقه وتقييمه.

The Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs provides support and advice to the Under-Secretary-General and, as appropriate, to the Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Inter-Agency Affairs and the Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development on planning, coordination, management and assessment of the programme of work of the Department.
